Native peoples are too often misrepresented or invisible in school curriculum and library collections, and many books still portray them only in the past tense. Join LAUSD's Title VI American Indian & Indigenous Education Program to explore how libraries can shape more accurate narratives and help Native students feel they belong. We'll look at who our Native and Indigenous students are, why textbooks and children's literature fall short, and what AB 1821 means for libraries. You'll leave with practical tools for auditing collections, evaluating books for cultural accuracy, and prioritizing tribally specific titles by Native authors, plus ideas for highlighting these resources year-round.
